Weekend Supervisor - Weekend: Saturday and Sunday (14 Hour
Shifts)

Sterile Processing Weekend Supervisor Responsibilities
- Looks at the OR schedule to prioritize instrumentation that is
needed. Differentiates by specialty based on OR schedule. Provides
alternate solutions when instrumentation is not available. In
collaboration with the OR charge nurse, reviews OR schedules and
add-on cases, anticipating needs and/or conflicts with
instrumentation, and offers alternative instrumentation as
indicated. Collaborates with Unit Management and sales
representatives to coordinate loaner instrumentation and product
evaluation/changes.
- Investigates problems/concerns and utilizes proactive
problem-solving to meet customer needs.
- Collects and analyzes data to improve work processes and makes
recommendations to resolve problems and facilitate desired
outcomes.
- Performs intermittent quality checks on all employees.
- Observes work in progress to ensure that all equipment is fully
operational, work areas are clean and orderly, and that proper
supply levels are maintained. Coordinates and evaluates the repair,
replacement, and refurbishment of all instruments and equipment
with the unit manager and PCD. Promotes judicious and conservative
use of supplies and equipment, identifies opportunities for cost
reduction, and participates in the implementation and documentation
of cost reduction initiatives.
- Responsible for daily review of all charts and
biological/chemical tests from all sterilizers and following
established protocols for positive biological results.
- Monitors and documents staff compliance with departmental
attire policy, traffic control patterns, and standard
precautions.
- Monitors and ensures proper handling of sterile supplies to
include proper storage, rotation, and distribution. Oversees all
production activities, ensuring that all items are properly
decontaminated, assembled, and sterilized according to all
standards while maintaining continuous workflow and timely
distribution of products to customers.
- Manages the department in the absence of the PCD.
- Coordinates monthly and daily scheduling of staff, monitoring
all processing areas, shifting resources as necessary to facilitate
desired outcomes.
- Responsible for the teaching, mentoring, and precepting of all
new employees; documents orientation results in the employee
record.
- Identifies the educational needs of the staff and coordinates
monthly and ad-hoc in-services accordingly.
- Oversees and assists team members in Sterile Processing, which
may include but is not limited to, ensuring the team is meeting
key-deliverables and quality standards, addressing and resolving
challenges, managing and tracking performance, and assisting in
time management and scheduling; escalates issues to senior leaders
as needed. Assists with the monitoring of individual staff
performance providing verbal coaching and counseling as needed;
documentation completed an employee record. Assists with annual
performance appraisals for designated employees. Participates in
the interviewing and selection of new employees.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
Sterile Processing Weekend Supervisor Requirements:
- Certification - Certified Registered Central Service Technician
Upon Start, certification from The International Association of
Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (CRCST) or
Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution
(CBSPD), Certified Registered Central Service Technician with
current certification; and, Certified Healthcare Leadership Within
12 Months Certified Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) or
Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) certification to be obtained in
one year of assignment if not already certified
- Experience - Three years of Sterile Processing and/or OR Tech
experience required, enrollment in sterile processing technician
course, course completion within one year of being hired
- Education - High School or GED
